Original Poem: Restless

Restless as I watch you sleep

I’m not ready to let you go

You told me you would die naturally

You had other plans, little did I know

After weeks of false hope

You are tired, you live in strife

You do not eat or drink anymore

You have chosen to end your life

I want to scream and fight

This is not how you’re supposed to die

Starvation is not natural, it’s cruel

So why Dad….why?

Ending this your way

That is your last wish

You are ready to cross the rainbow bridge

Cold to the touch, I start to cry

I lean in, kiss your forehead…not ready to say goodbye

Restless…
